Ellen - South Carolina Bridal Portraits

We thought an elegant, historic location would be beautiful for Ellen’s engagement portrait session.  What better place than Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C., where both her parents have worked for many years.  These first lovely images were in McBryde Hall, built in 1909. Built in the eclectic style of a medieval hall, McBryde for years was the primary dining place for Winthrop students. Upperclassmen presided at the heads of tables; students sat in assigned seats for family-style meals.

The hall’s spacious Tudor design accentuates the high hammer-beamed ceilings supported by an elaborate timber system.  We loved the soaring spaces, huge windows and gorgeous wood and flooring.

As we took photographs of Ellen at the grand staircase in Tillman Hall, university staff and faculty who work with her mom and dad gave her hugs and greetings.  She’s been coming on campus since she was a little girl, and clearly she and her family members are loved. Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977, Tillman Hall is an example of the Romanesque architecture popular in the 1890s.

The covered walkway to the Roddey Apartments offered lovely columns as a backdrop.  Roddey was the first Winthrop facility built in the Neo-Georgian style, setting an architectural trend in campus buildings that would last for more than 45 years.
